History

The mission of the City of Sherman is to enhance the well being of its citizens by providing effective and efficient public services, by supporting a strong local economy, and by providing for quality of life activities. This mission is founded on principles of openness, fairness and fiscal responsibility.

Sherman is a community of approximately 36,000, located at the crossroads of U. S. Highways 75 and 82, about 65 miles north of the Dallas/Ft. Worth metroplex and about 15 miles south of Oklahoma. Home to an impressive list of Fortune 500 companies and the seat of Grayson County, Sherman is the leading municipality in our region.

The City of Sherman is a political subdivision of the State of Texas and is a home rule city; as such, its City Charter serves as its constitution. The city operates under the City Council/Manager form of government. The Mayor and six Council Members formulate the operating policy of the government, and the City Manager serves as the chief administrative officer.
