Animals impounded at the Sherman Animal Shelter may be reclaimed during normal operating hours. Any owner reclaiming an animal from the Shelter is responsible for payment of impoundment and daily handling fees. A citation may also be issued if the animal is not currently vaccinated against rabies. In addition, a reclamation form must be filled for each animal. Please be sure to bring your pet's current rabies vaccination papers from the vet. Animals may only be picked up by their owners who must be 18 years of age or older. A valid driver's license must also be presented.

In order to determine impound and daily handling fees, please use the following table to determine which class your animal belongs in.

Class A
Dogs, cats, and ferrets.
Class B
Small or miniature livestock. Examples include goats, sheep, lambs, pigs, sow, calves, foals, and animals of approximately the same size and weight.
Class C
Large livestock. Examples include cattle, horses, ponies, mules, and animals of approximately the same size and weight.
Class D
Wild and exotic animals.

Animals not listed above shall be disposed of at the direction of the supervisor of the City of Sherman Animal Shelter.

Impound Fees
Impound fees increase each time an animal is impounded. Each fee listed is per owner, not animal. Puppies and kittens less than 6 months of age shall be charged the sterilized impoundment fee. Animals may be exempted from sterilization upon written recommendation from a licensed veterinarian stating that such alternatives would be harmful or dangerous to the animal; owners of such animals shall be charged the lower impoundment fees for sterilized animals.
