Library
Card Information
Any resident of Texas may apply for a library card. Cards are issued
for one year and are renewable. There is no charge for Texas residents.
Others must pay a $40 fee each year; please call (903) 892-7240 for
exceptions. If a card is lost, there is a $1 replacement fee.
To obtain a card, adult patrons must present:

A valid driver's license or government photo

Their social security number |

Proof of current address if the driver's
license address is incorrect |
Children under 18 years of age must be registered
by a parent or legal guardian. The parent/guardian must provide us with
a valid driver's license with correct address or provide proof of correct
address, the child's social security card number, and must pay any amount
owed on his/her own card before obtaining a child's card.

and teacher materials may be checked out 2 weeks. |

Videos may be checked out for 3 days. |
Items may be renewed by phone up to 3 times unless
they are reserved for another patron. Please have your library card
number and the titles of the items you wish to renew ready when you

Fax
A public fax service is available at a cost of $1 a page to send and
$1 a page to receive. International fax service costs $4 a page.
Genealogy
The Sherman Public Library has a genealogy department which houses local
history books and records, marriage licenses (1846-1911), Grayson County
Deeds (1846-1885), Grayson County Tax Rolls (1846-1910) on microfilm,
obituaries, Sherman City Directories, the Sherman newspaper, Grayson
County Census records, and Grayson County Cemetery records.
Internet
Access
Patrons may sign up for Internet use privileges when they register for
a card at the Library's service desk or any time after registering for
a card. Internet access is available in the reference department.
An adult cardholder, in good standing, must complete
an Internet agreement form after reading the rules at the service desk
in order to use the internet. When ready to use the service, you must
present your library card in the reference department. Parents must
sign an agreement in order for their children to be allowed internet
access. Depending on the child's age, the parent may be required to
be present when the child is using the service.
Lamination
The library laminates items for the public on Tuesdays and Fridays at
2 PM. The cost for laminating items is ten cents per running inch.
Literacy
Adult literacy one-on-one tutoring is held at the Sherman Public Library.

Reference
and Interlibrary Loan
The reference department provides current information on topics and
provides materials and assistance for research. The collection includes
non-circulating books, current and retrospective periodicals, microfilm
and microfiche, interlibrary loans, and internet access. There are a
variety of databases available through the Texas State Library such
as the Health & Wellness Resource Center and an Encyclopedia of
Animals.

and Memorials
The Friends of the Sherman Public Library sponsor a gift and memorial
program. Books or materials can be placed in memory or honor of individuals.
